The egg donation program is the treatment indicated in patients that, for a number of reasons, do not have a sufficient number of eggs or of the required quality to yield a healthy embryo. The egg donation process consists in performing IVF with the eggs from an anonymous donor and the sperm of the husband, followed by the transfer of the embryos to the recipient woman.
The egg donor is totally anonymous, but the couple can kwon some different characteristics of the donor, like blood type, height, colour of eyes, hair colour … The egg donor usually is between 20 and 28 years old, and most of them are students.
The receipt patient receives a hormonal substitution treatment with oestrogen and progesterone that prepares the uterus for the receipt of the embryos while the woman waits for the donation. The same day in which the eggs are retrieved we carry out the fertilization of the eggs, and two or three days later, we transfer the embryos to the patient. In IREMA all the embryo transfer are non-frozen embryo transfers, which needs a great coordination and synchronization but offers also better results.
In order to ensure that we obtain oocytes of the highest quality possible, the egg donor is subjected to a rigorous selection process that includes a personal and family medical history, a blood analysis, serological studies, karyotype, etc. The physical and blood group characteristics of the donor are carefully evaluated and registered to facilitate the matching of the egg donor with the recipient woman or couple.
How can you join the egg donor program?
If you come to our clinic from a distant town or from out of Spain, everything is coordinated to generate the minimal inconveniences to the patient. The patients must ask for an appointment, in which you are going to be informed about all the tests that are going to be necessary to study your case, in order that you could do them in your city of origin. Before coming, you can send us all the information you have by e-mail or fax, and we explain you if you need some more tests. When you come to this appointment we open your clinic file, some medical check up, and we recommend cryopreserving a sperm sample, and you can return to your city this same day. In this way, the next visit to our clinic will be only for the embryo transfer.
On the other hand, if the patients have to remain some night for medical reasons or for their comfort, we can find you accommodation.
If they come to our clinic through the airports of Alicante or Valencia, we send you a chauffeur to gather you, without any cost for you, for your major comfort. Once realized the consultation or the transference of embryos, we will send you again to the airport of origin.
