A sperm analysis is the study of a semen sample. It is the most important…
For couples where the male cannot ejaculate or there is no sperm in the ejaculate, pregnancy can be achieved by means of different techniques to obtain sperm and be able to perform an Assisted Reproduction technique.
There are patients who suffer from erectile dysfunction due to diabetes, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury and/or other neurological disorders. For these patients, ejaculation can be induced using one of the following methods:
Electrically Induced ejaculation (Electroejaculation):
Retrieval of sperm from testicle (TESA, TESE, PESA and MESA):
This technique has been developed for men producing sperm with low quality or no sperm in the ejaculate due to blockage or other testicular disorders. It is also used for patients suffering from erectile dysfunction due to diabetes, multiple sclerosis and/or neurological disorders; although the sperm obtained from vibration or electrical stimulation are often better quality.
The techniques available to obtain sperm in these cases are the following:
Depending on the method for obtaining the sample and the sperm quality (sperm count and motility), the appropriate Assisted Reproduction technique will be chosen.
In patients with success with the vibration-induced reflex ejaculation, an artificial insemination procedure can be used, as the sample obtained can be of good quality.
The probabilities of achieving pregnancy after using these techniques can be as high as if there were no infertility factor in the couple.
